Mountain View Hold Their AGM

“Its Full Steam Ahead at Mounatin View for 2012”

There was a very festive start to the AGM of Mountain View Golf Club on Friday night last as a lovely mulled wine and mince pie reception was held by management for all the members. Acting Captain for 2011 Seamus O’Brien opened the evening by paying tribute to his Vice Captain and the committee for enabling him to step in as acting Captain during the year. Seamus thanked Bee O’Grady and Michael Dobbyn for their support during the year with club competitions and in house club procedures. A huge tribute was paid by Seamus to Head Greenkeeper Edward Power for undoubtedly providing a fantastic course for members to play on during the year. Edward was also complimented by the committee and members alike for the condition and maintenance of the greens throughout the year which were the best they had ever seen. Out going President Patrick Halligan then thanked the club and committee members for what he described as a fantastic year. Patrick also thanked Michael Dobbyn and the O’Neill family for a great year.

Course Director Bee O’Grady then addressed the meeting and outlined all the work that had been done throughout the year both on the course and within the club. She also informed the members present that 400 more members had played in competitions than the previous year. Bee also informed the members present that 2012 would prove to be a very exciting year at Mountain View as the planned construction of 7 new tee boxes was well underway, which would see the course lengthened to over 6010 yards.

The new member/green fee loyalty card will come into effect on January 1st where members and green fees will receive free golf throughout the year. Members present were delighted with this innovative concept. Bee thanked Seamus O’Brien and Patrick Halligan for their leadership throughout the year. A special word of thanks to Jim Dunne the Handicap Secretary was extended from all – a tough job – but one that received acknowledgement from the GUI that we were 100% compliant.

Mr. Willie Grace was thanked from all corners for his voluntary contribution throughout the year. Seniors Captain John Murphy was thanked for his excellent reign. All members received an end of year newsletter to inform them of how well all the team events and singles competitions progressed both internally and externally throughout the year. The management proposal to purchase a defibrillator and club gear from club funds was passed successfully.

Head Green keeper Edward Power then addressed the meeting and gave a detailed account of the construction of the new tee boxes and other course improvements he intended on carrying out.

The election of officers and the incoming committee were as follows :

Incoming Captain is Seamus O’Brien, Vice Captain is Jim Dunne, Secretary is Bee O’Grady, Handicap Secretary is Michael Dobbyn & Jim Dunne and they will mentor Patrick Halligan in 2012. President is Jim Maher, Treasurer is Michael O’Neill, Committee members are John Coleman, John Byrne, Willie Grace, Nicky Fennelley, and Bobby Hearne.

The meeting ended with great laughter and excitement as Bee O’Grady asked everyone to reach under their seats to see if they received a ticket for a spot prize. The Captain, management and committee would like to thank all members for their continued loyalty and wish them and their families a very happy Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.
