March Medal Result

Medal

The first monthly medal of the year was played last Sunday in bitterly cold conditions. Joe Forristal, Benny McGuire and Frank Culleton were the medal winners on the day.

Spring League

This years Spring League starts next weekend 30^th & 31^st of March with a Single Stablelford . Entry Fee will be €25.00 per person for the six rounds. Participants must be registered and be paid up before they take part. Details of the competition can be viewed on www.mviewgolf.com Registration sheet now on the notice board in the clubhouse.

Cancellation

Last weekends Fourball Better Ball was cancelled due to the late start on Sunday morning because of frost. An 18 hole single Stableford took place later on Sunday.

Medal

This Sunday the first of the eight monthly medals for 2013 takes place. This year there will be just three catagories (handicaps 0 – 13, 14 – 18 and 19 + ). All medal competitions will be single Stoke and also GOY.

Spring League

This years Spring League is going to be run as a singles . There will be 3 Single Stableford and 3 Single Stroke with the first round starting on weekend 30^th & 31^st of March. Inter Club Competitions

This year Mountain View will take part in the Junior Cup, Pierce Purcell Shield and the Provincial Towns (Leinster) Challenge Cup. On Saturday May 25^th they are in Courtown GC for the Junior Cup and on the same day the club will be represented in the Pierce Purcell Shield at Wexford GC. They take on Killerig GC in the first round of the Provincial Towns which must be played by April 28^th.

Jim and Anne Drive-In To Office                                                      

On Sunday morning last Mountain View members started their 2013 golfing year when incoming joint Captains Jim Dunne, Anne Foskin and junior captain Sophie O Grady held their Captain’s Drive-In. On a sunny but cool morning both captains and the junior captain had good drives straight down the first fairway after which 72 people took part in a 4 person team scramble. The members enjoyed their game on what ended as a bitterly cold day but conditions were perfect for golf. The presentation of the prizes took place in the clubhouse after refreshments and Captains Jim and Anne expressed their delight with the huge number that took part. Course management and in particular course superintendent Edward Power was thanked for the immaculate condition of the course. The winners were 1. Tony Malone, Christy Donovan, Richard Murphy and Sophie O Grady 58.2. 2 Larry O Neill, John Murphy, Carmel Fennelly and Josie O Gorman 58.4.

Registration sheet now on the notice board in the clubhouse. There will be 3 categories (Handicaps 0 – 13,   14 – 18   and 19 + ). Any players handicap that increases or decreases during the competition will still remain in his original category for the duration of the league but will play off his adjusted handicap. Points will be allotted to the first five places in each category (12Pts, 9Pts, 6Pts, 3Pts and 1Pt) after each round. There will be prizes for the first three places in each category at the end of the six rounds.

There will be 3 catagories (H/Caps 0 – 14,   15 – 17   & 18 + ).

Any players H/Cap that increases or decreases during the competition will still remain in his original category for the duration of the league but will play off his adjusted handicap.

Points will be allotted to the first five places in each category.

(12Pts, 9Pts, 6Pts, 3Pts and 1Pt.) after each round.

There will be prizes for the first three places in each category.

AGM

There was a large attendance at the AGM of Mountain View Golf Club on Friday night last. Outgoing Captain Seamus O’Brien opened the evening by paying tribute to his Vice Captain and the committee for enabling him to carry out the Captain duties at ease during the year. He wished incoming captain Jim Dunne good luck for the coming year. Seamus also thanked Bee O’Grady and the office staff for their support during the year with club competitions and in house club procedures. A huge tribute was paid by Seamus to greenkeeper Edward Power for providing a fantastic course for members to play. Edward was also complimented by the committee and members alike for the condition and maintenance of the greens throughout the year which were in great condition in spite of all the rain. Out going President Jimmy Maher thanked the club and committee members for what he described as a fantastic year. Jimmy complimented the O’Neill family for providing such a fabulous golf course in the present economic climate.

Course Director Bee O’Grady then addressed the meeting and outlined all the work that had been done throughout the year both on the course and within the club. She also informed the members present that in spite of all the wet weather in 2012 the numbers who played in competitions were only slightly down on the previous year. The new member/green fee loyalty card was a great success during 2012. She thanked Seamus O’Brien and Jimmy Maher for their leadership throughout the year and special word of thanks to Jim Dunne the outgoing Handicap Secretary.

Seniors Captain Liam Maddock was thanked for his excellent reign. She also thanked Edward Power and the office staff for their dedication throughout the year. Bee proposed that the position of captain be for a two year term instead of the traditional one year. This was put to the floor during the meeting and was carried unanimously.

Green keeper Edward Power told the meeting that he hoped the construction of three of the new tee boxes should be completed by the end of March.. He also informed the meeting of other course improvements he intends carrying out including repairs to the bridge at the 5^th tee box.

The election of officers and the incoming committee were as follows :

Incoming Captain is, Jim Dunne, Secretary is Bee O’Grady, Handicap Secretary is John Byrne. President is Leonard O Shea, Seniors Captain is John Coleman, Competition Secretary is Willie Grace, Treasurer is Michael O’Neill, Committee members are John Coleman, Jim Maher, Michael Dobbyn, Seamus O’Brien, Edward Power, Keith Kavanagh and Kevin Kelly.

At the end of the meeting there was a minutes silence club members and family of members whom passed away during 2012.

Captains Drive In

Captains Anne Foskin and Jim Dunne will drive into office next Sunday. Members can register up to 16.00 on this Friday at the Clubhouse or on 056-7768122. There are some spaces left so register now and don’t be disappointed. The draw for teams will take place on Saturday. All participants are asked to be at the clubhouse by 9.00am. The competition will be a 3 Person scramble with a shotgun start at 9.30. Members taking part are reminded that all subs must be fully paid.

AGM

The AGM Of Mountain View Golf Club will take place in the Clubhouse on this Friday February 22^nd at 8.00PM . All members welcome.

Open Day of Golf

Mountain View will host an Open Day of Golf on this Saturday, 23^th February 2013. The aim of the Open Day is to showcase Mountain View as a possible club to join for 2013 for those who are looking at joining a club for the first time or those wishing to make a change & join a different club. The golf team will be on hand to discuss the various valuable membership packages for 2013. Green fees on the day will be just €10 to all new potential members. If you join on the day, you will receive a gift from the golf shop. Tee times must be booked in advance through the golf shop.
